The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked off with 2020 NFL Season with a game against the New Orleans Saints inside a silent Superdome.
If there was ever any doubt that sports is a reflection of society, NFL week one was proof positive.
Players wore messages on their helmets promoting social justice and locked arms in a show of unity for racial equality. Stadiums sat empty with in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 among fans and stadium staff.
With normally raucous crowds gone, you could hear a pin drop during TV timeouts when the piped in crowd noise was turned off.
The Saints came out on top of this game but I think these Bucs will be just fine.
They’ve got a great mix of crafty vets and young bucks who can ball (especially rookies Tristan Wires and Antoine Winfield Jr.).
But the day was a reminder that now, more than ever, we all need to wear a mask and register to vote.
The game inside the dome went off without a hitch.
It’s the world outside that needs our attention.
